Za sobotu a neděli se na Qatar Classic odehrála první kola turnaje mužů i žen. Největším překvapením je vyřazení světové jedničky Raneem El Welily indickou hráčkou Joshanou Chinappa.
V ženské soutěži se také nečekalo, že mladá egypťanka Amina Yousry pošle domů nasazenou Emily Whitlock.
V mužském pavouku sehrál pěkné utkání, bez velkého respektu, mladý Al Tamini se světovou jedničkou Elshorbagym. Do staré formy se nemůže dostat James Willstrop, který tentokrát prohrál s kvalifikantem Mohamedem Abouelgharem. Hodně se potrápil Simon Rösner se Stephenem Coppingerem, kterého udolal až v pátém setu 11:9. Určitě nečekal prohru ani Tarek Momen, nasazená osmička, kterého Karim Abdel Gawad porazil v pěti napínavých setech.
